Entry 40 : KMJ - 01 [Introduction]

I wasn't at all a person to adapt to changes. Even when change was something that had to happen, I still wanted everything to stay the same. Yes, it was childish; naive to say the least. But I stuck with it. The day I received the offer to study at Kolej Matrikulasi Johor (KMJ) was the beginning of change.

You see, for all my life, I have never lived out side my own home, away from my parents, away from everything. Friends, television, internet, my own bed, the refrigerator, video games, DVDs; almost everything I ever needed to live. I was going to go away. I didn't even think twice of rejecting the offer for the Diploma. Frankly speaking, personally, I stand firm when I say that studying in a Matriculation is way better than getting a Diploma. I had that in my mind then and after finishing my Matriculation program, my belief haven't changed. In fact, it has strengthen. No offense to those who are getting their Diploma; I wish you all the best. But if you have a choice right now, opt for Matriculation, you'll know the answer in a year.

Anyway, it was the 10th of May when we were due to register ourselves into our respective colleges. I got the one in Tangkak, two hours' travel from home. Thank God it wasn't that far away. I didn't know what to expect there. I can't say I didn't have any friends there. There was Miza and Alim whom I've been classmates with for years. And I was reunited with Izzul and Brock. Still, I felt alienated. Come to think of it, I think it was culture shock. I had never lived in a hostel, studying someplace other than home.

So this was the beginning of a new experience, a new journey in life. This was going to be my new adventure.
