Entry 74 : MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia 2013

Hey, there!
As the title suggests, in this entry, I shall give some coverage of the event that shook the world: MTV World Stage!
The day started off with a group of friends and I visiting Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to welcome the boys of Exo-K that arrived a day later than their counterparts, Exo-M.
They flew in from Philipines that morning and were clearly deprived of much rest.
A few hundred fans (almost 99% girls) waited anxiously for even a glimpse of their favorite member and when the boys finally came out, KLIA was shaken with the screams of fangirls.
It does seem like the people at KLIA are quite used to it now.

My brother (@qirafyosman) and I, known as QZ Photography, managed some shots of the boys making their way out of KLIA:

We then proceeded to Sunway, where traffic jams filled the roads towards the venue.
Loads of people were already queued up but we decided to stay out of the sun (and later on rain) and had lunch instead.
Around 6PM, we made our way into the venue.
The stage this year was very different from the previous years'.
It was substantially lower and quite smaller.
I didn't have to break my neck to look up at the singers and the layout was noticably narrower.
Although, it may just be my bad memory.

The event started with DJ Natalie of Hitz.fm and another DJ from My.fm giving the audience some quick reminders of the Dos & Don'ts during the concert.
They also gave out freebies from the sponsors.
After that, the ever beautiful VJ Hanli and totally hunky VJ Alan came out to greet the crowd and got the crowd going.
Their banter on stage and natural charm grabbed the audience's attention and a two-way interaction was beautifully established.
From my observation, this year's theme for #worldstagemy was social media exposure.
It was evident that all MTV wanted to do was let the word out and have the fans do all the talking, sharing and promoting.
It was a subtle yet very effective method of marketing and I dare say they pulled it off quite professionally.

VJ Alan and VJ Hanli took a few photos and videos with the crowd, then proceeded to introduce the first performer of the night:

Representing Malaysia: Joe Flizzow

Joe Flizzow entered with the 'illest' beats and rhymes, which left me astounded.
For as long as Joe performed, if I hadn't known him from before, I wouldn't even have guessed that he was a local homeboy, originating from Subang Jaya, just 2 minutes away!
He had his friends Ila Damia, Altimet and SonaOne perform alongside him and they gave the best opening performance in all three years that I've attended MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia.

Here are some shots from The Kartel Family's performance:

Next up was the 12 boys of Exo!
That night, they performed four songs; Wolf, History, 3.6.5 and lastly, Growl.
They first put on a very powerful image with the haunting choreography of Wolf, which was their first chart-topping single.
After performing History, they introduced themselves individually.
They also gave shoutouts to the other performers including Joe Flizzow and Far East Movement!
Their boyish charms, playful character and beaming charisma shone on stage when they performed 3.6.5, a song off their latest album XOXO.
During 3.6.5 , they scattered everywhere around the stage to greet fans and give much appreciated fan service.
Members were smiling, waving and gesturing at fans throughout the song.
They ended their set with their newest single, Growl.
They made sure to leave the fans fully satisfied with one of the best performances of Growl ever.

Here are some shots of Exo:

After Exo made their way, I also had to bolt.
Not that I came just for Exo, but I had to leave because I had to head back home in JB because everyone had to go back to classes and work the next day (Monday).
I also started my new semester that day!
Eventhough I was bummed that I had to miss FM's set, I was glad to have seen our local talent Joe Flizzow and the dashing boys of Exo.

I had a splendid time at MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia 2013 and I can't wait to come back again next year.
Hopefully, I'll get to see VJ Alan and VJ Hanli again!
They rock.
And I miss them.
Especially Hanli.

By the way, I hope to continue my #aphotoaday routine after this.
Time to hunt!
