Entry 100 : The RAW36 Challenge

Hello, there!
It's a new month now and although it's almost to the middle of it, I've decided on a new challenge I'd like to take up: The RAW36 Challenge.

What does it mean, though?
It means that I will be doing my photographing in RAW format.
What this is, is that usually when taking photos, we take them in either JPEG or JPG.
This allows us instant sharing and viewing of the files, without any editing needed to be done, although you might still want to.

However, for RAW files, like it or not, the photos you take must undergo some sort of processing, even if it's just to convert the file to JPEG.
What this allows is more storage of information of the photo, such as white balance and exposure.
When processing RAW photos, the picture quality won't drop as much as it would if you were editing a JPEG photo.
Therefore, I should be getting better photos in terms of quality.
Also, by taking photos in RAW, I have the limitations of my D7100, where I can't just spray up to 100 photos at one time.
I have to carefully calculate my shooting since RAW files store more info, thus takes up more space.
With my 24MP D7100, one RAW file takes up to 30MB, whereby a standard NORMAL-LARGE JPEG would only take up 7MB!

If you know a little bit about picture formats, you'll know what I'm talking about.
The last time I shot in 1.6x crop mode on my D7100, I filled up 16GB of data even before the event ended, so I lost most of what happened towards the end.

And, for the 36 part, it means that in one day, I will not shoot more than 36 frames/photos.
This is in line with classic film cameras, where one roll of film would only allows 36 shots.
This will help me anticipate the shot and look for decisive moments, rather than just shooting photos at 7fps while praying for a good or usable shot.

I decided to take on this challenge because I've been watching a lot of Jared Polin videos on YouTube and he is a really good mentor in terms of teaching me what to look for and what mindset I should have when out shooting.

I hope that I won't slack off.
November and December are busy months for me, especially since January is when I have my Finals.
Might not get to go to any events for the rest of the year, so I hope to update this blog on other things.
Hope you guys don't run away!
