Entry 147 : Joe Flizzow @ Hello Kitty Friends Fiesta

What's up, everyone?
It was a pretty hectic October and I can't believe there's only less than two months left of 2014!
I still got a lot of work to do IRL but I'm going to squeeze a few posts in before that, starting with my coverage of Joe Flizzow's performance at the Hello Kitty Friends Fiesta at Little Red Cube, Nusajaya.

Joe Flizzow tore up the stage at Nusajaya

So, last Sunday on November 2nd, I heard that Joe was coming down to Johor for a performance at the fiesta, which was held as a celebration of Hello Kitty's 40th anniversary.
The venue is located about half an hour away from Skudai, where I live so it wasn't too far of a distance to travel.
I got there early, had my dinner and waited for the performance to start.

It was around 8PM when a band got on stage and started performing.
They introduced themselves as JB Buskers and performed a handful of covers for the gradually growing crowd.
Classic hits by Zainal Abidin and Search received resounding applause from the audience and the band ended their one-hour set with an original called "No War".

Here are some shots of the band from the night:

Next up was the moment everyone was waiting for.

Joe Flizzow starting his set with Iller Iller

It had been more than a year since I last saw Joe Flizzow perform on stage and it was awesome to see this man bust rhymes live again.
Joe's set started with Iller Iller and I instantly recalled the unforgettable MTV World Stage Live In Malaysia 2013, albeit this time with no dancers and a substantially smaller stage.
The significant difference in stage setup didn't hinder him, though, and Joe kept the energy going throughout his whole set.

This past year, Joe has been hitting strides with his latest album HAVOC (read my review of the album here) and has made infinite rounds on the airwaves with hits like Apa Khabar (featuring SonaOne) and Untukmu (featuring Ila Damiaa).
Joe is also slated to release his next single Baek along with a music video soon!

Joe performed a total of seven songs that night; his full set as below (some songs may be out of arrangement):

  1. Iller Iller
  2. Untukmu
  3. Tepi Sikit (originally by Sleeq featuring Joe Flizzow)
  4. Apa Khabar
  5. Baek
  6. Satu Kali
  7. Havoc

I enjoyed every second of it.
The fact that Joe was very personal with the crowd, always coming down from the stage to get everyone involved made the performance a lot more special.
He even had one dude from the audience rap Altimet's part in Havoc, which I suppose made it the best night of that dude's life.
The enthusiastic crowd made the whole event feel like a real concert and Joe's energetic antics added to the already amped up atmosphere.

Keep your friends close and your fans closer

Even though the voices of SonaOne, Altimet and Ila Damiaa were only recorded tracks, Joe wasn't alone that night.
He was in fact accompanied by his official DJ, DJ Biggie.

After the show had ended, Joe stuck around for a short meet & greet and photo session with the fans.
I also got to get up close and personal with him.
We exchanged a few words and I introduced myself as the person who wrote the review of his album.
He thanked me for my hard work and appreciated my dissection of his album.
Joe is such a down to earth guy and it only elevated my respect for the man.

Here's an exclusive photo I got for THE FEAR:

Kartello Hello

All in all, it was a great night.
I thoroughly enjoyed Joe's performance and it finally made me realize how one year was too long to go without catching him live even once.

I am looking forward to more activities by Joe and the whole Kartel Family.
FYI, just yesterday it was announced that SoneOne will be releasing his next single #Hakeleh soon so make sure you keep an eye out for that!

I'm also excited to see more events (and hopefully concerts) being held here in Johor.
It would certainly be much more convenient for me to easily juggle between school work and media work.
