Entry 164 : GOT7 1st Fan Meeting in KL Press Conference

Hello, there!

Last Saturday, I was invited to cover GOT7's press conference for their 1st Fan Meeting in KL Live.
It was a very brief meeting with the boys, where the members of the media had about 20 minutes to ask questions and hear the responses from the boys, themselves.

The press conference was hosted by local radio DJ and YouTuber Jin Lim (aka JinnyBoy), who did very well in summing up questions and interacting with the boys.

Jin makes the press conference that more fun

There were quite a number of questions asked that day despite the extremely short amount of time allocated for the PC.
I recorded the whole press conference on my iPhone and below is the full Q&A transcript
(Note: Some words or phrases may be inaccurate):

GOT7 look anxious to answer some questions

Jin: Welcome to Malaysia! Have you learned any Malaysian words or not?
GOT77: Yes! Hi, Malaysia! Nama saya Jackson.

Jin: This is the first fan meet in Malaysia. The response down there is crazy... So how do you guys feel having so many fans come to your fan meet?
(Translator repeats question in Korean)
(JB answers in Korean)
GOT7: [Translated by translator] This is our second time after the music video shooting so we are really happy that they keep supporting us, liking us and coming out to our fan meeting.

Jin: So, let's talk about the music video. The music video is A. It's got millions and millions of views. So, what was it like filming in Malaysia? Was it too hot for you?
GOT7: (Immediately) Yes.

Jin: How many layers of clothes did you have to wear?
GOT7: Like, three or four layers.

Jin: What season was it in Korea? Could you guys adjust?
GOT7: Right now? It's not winter anymore... (JB says something in Korean) [Translated by translator] It's summer in Korea.

Jin: So, do you prefer cold or hot?
GOT7: (BamBam) Hot, for me.

Jin: What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word "Malaysia".
GOT7: A music video.

Jin: Nobody's introduced you to the food or the culture?
GOT7: (BamBam) Oh, yes! I'm from Thailand. It's like brothers (Malaysia & Thailand), you know?

Jin: *jokes* But Malaysian food is a lot better, right?
GOT7: (BamBam) It's like brothers.

Jin: Now, other than Kuala Lumpur, are there other places in Malaysia that you want to visit?
(Translator repeats question in Korean)
(JB answers in Korean)
GOT7: [Translated by translator] Some place they want to rest and chill.

Jin: What kind of concept are you going to try for the next album?
GOT7: (Jackson) It's a secret! Surprise!

Jin: What's the biggest and most proud achievement since GOT7's debuted?
(Translator repeats question in Korean)
(JB answers in Korean)
GOT7: They won the newcomer award so they're very happy about that.

Jin: GOT7 is a multinational group with different members coming from Korea, America, Thailand /Sawadee Kap/ and Hong Kong, as well. Was there any communication problem when you guys first met?
GOT7: (Jackson immediately responds) Of course!
(Translator repeats question in Korean)
(JB answers in Korean)
[Translated by translator] They were all learning Korean so...

Jin: It's great that you guys know so many languages. You know why? Because all the languages you guys know, we know them in Malaysia, too.
(Jin says something in Cantonese)
(Jackson delightfully responds)
(Jin says something in Thai)
(BamBam is impressed)
(Jin speaks English with stereotypical lingo)
(Mark is impressed, gets up and bro-hugs Jin)
(Jin says "bulgoggi" and "tteokbokki")

Jin: After you guys finish your fan meeting in KL, is there going to be any plans for a full-fledged concert in Malaysia?
(Translator repeats question in Korean)
(JB answers in Korean)
GOT7: [Translated by translator] There's not really any plans yet but they'll try their best to do a concert in Malaysia.
Jin: We'll bring you back.
GOT7: (Jackson) Okay, if you bring us back, we'll do the concert.

Jackson is enthusiastic about the idea of a full concert in Malaysia

Jin proceeds to open the floor to the media.

AstroView: For Jackson, what is your favorite Roommate episode that you have filmed, so far?
GOT7: (Jackson) My favorite? Of course, it's when my parents came. I was so touched and emotional.
Jin: Did you cry a lot?
GOT7: (Jackson) Yes, I did.
Jin: It's okay because those are MANLY TEARS!

BernamaTV: Besides performing and singing, you guys also act and do variety shows. Which one is the most challenging?
(Translator repeats question in Korean)
(JB answers in Korean)
GOT7 : [Translated by translator] You can't really say which one is easier. Both of them are hard so we have to really work for both of them.

Hype Malaysia: Do you guys still experience stage fright? How do you deal with it?
GOT7: No, not really. Sometimes.
(JB answers in Korean)
[Translated by translator] You know when you get stage fright and your heart beats very fast? So you try to change that as the interest for the stage.

(Inaudible): Although you guys are having this event, GOT7 1st Fan Meeting in KL today, how do you think that GOT7 (you guys) will attract people who have not yet been exposed to your songs to this event? Not necessarily fans but not the haters. Just other people. Do you think they will enjoy your song live? (The last part may be something else as she became a little flustered after asking such a long question)
Jin: Let met sum up the question! So everybody that's here today are fans of GOT7, right? So, to those that have not been exposed to GOT7 or who do not know about GOT7, how will you guys influence them to like GOT7? What about GOT7 is so outstanding that attracts everyone from around the world?
(Translator repeats question in Korean)
GOT7: (BamBam) How are we going to make them love us, right?
Jin: Yeah, basically what is so unique about GOT7 that attracts fans?
GOT7: (Jackson) Maybe go beside their ears and say "I'm GOT7".
(Crowd roars with laughter)

"Hey, I'm GOT7"

Malaysia Kpop Fans: What do you think of Malaysian fans? 말레이시아 팬 여러분들 어떻게 생각해요?
(JB answers in Korean)
GOT7: [Translated by translator] First of all, they are very thankful to Malaysian fans because when they came to Malaysia to shoot their music video, they followed them everywhere and take pictures of them. They think they are very friendly, also.

Jin: I heard this yesterday. When you guys arrived at the airport, you guys had over 300 fans, not only Malaysians, but Thailand and Hong Kong. They flew into the terminal and they stayed inside the terminal to meet you guys. How crazy is that? Did you guys get afraid or are you guys thankful for that?
GOT7: [Translated by translator] We are touched.

Press conference ends.

It was very unfortunate that I didn't get to cover the fan meeting, as well.
Even so, I am grateful that eRama invited me to cover the press conference.
Hopefully, when GOT7 come back for their full concert, I'll get access to the concert.
Until then.
