Entry 256 : 2023 TREASURE TOUR [HELLO] IN KUALA LUMPUR

K-pop boyband TREASURE was in town for a few days for their first Asia tour. The 10-member group (originally 12), which is relatively new and made its debut in 2020, was created through a reality survival show run by YG Entertainment. On Saturday, I had the chance to go to their debut performance in Malaysia, and it was a blast!


TREASURE TOUR ‘HELLO’ was held at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam. When I arrived at the venue, it was unbearably hot outside but that did not stop TREASURE MAKERS (or TEUMES for short) from taking photos of their concert fits and just generally having fun with each other while eagerly waiting for the doors to open. However, right before the concert started, it began to rain and everybody just rushed into the venue.


Treasure, that is what you are (literally)

Greeted by the resounding cheers of their fans who were eager to see them and a sea of blue light sticks, TREASURE began the performance with one of their title tracks, JIKJIN, which immediately energized the audience. The fact that the members weren't performing alone but with a band accompanying them totally elevated the music experience.


The whole energy throughout the venue was electric from beginning to the end and the members steadily performed their whole setlist which consisted of almost 30 songs in total.

There were a few VCRs shown in between the set list. One of them displayed a video interview clip with the band members and behind the scenes of the production of their first Asia tour. You can sense how much it meant to them to be able to do this tour because it is a significant step for their career.


The members which consist of Choi Hyunsuk (leader), Jihoon, Yoshi, Junkyu, Yoon Jaehyuk, Asahi, Doyoung, Haruto, Park Jeongwoo and So Junghwan, showed off their charms on stage and were having fun meeting Malaysian TEUME while consistently giving great performances. When they performed CLAP!, the members asked their fans to clap along. Following that, they performed their hit song DARARI which went viral last year on TikTok due to its catchy tune and cute dance. Truly a fan favorite, you could hear everyone sing along to it.


Not forgetting their slower songs, the members also performed IT’S OKAY and ORANGE. They had an elevated stage during ORANGE which got them to eye level with the fans on the first and second floor of the stadium.

While Yoshi, Choi Hyunsuk, Asahi and Haruto went for an outfit change for their unit stages, the other members stayed on stage to interact with fans. They asked for food recommendations for when they come again next time and even prepared creative pick up lines that had the crowd laughing. Two of my favorites were:

“You’re like a telur to my roti telur... without you I’m just kosong” - Jaehyuk


One of the stages TEUME were looking forward to was their cover stage for iKON’s RYTHM TA and BIGBANG’s BANG BANG BANG and as expected, the performances were solid and they made those songs theirs.


During the encore, the members were dressed in their tour T-shirts and various kinds of head accessories, showing off their cute and playful side. They ran around the wide stage and focused on interacting as much as they could with all of the fans that came that day.


Fans were reluctant to see them go but after about two and a half hours, the concert was coming to an end. TREASURE ended the night with a brief speech by their leader who thanked everyone involved in the concert and making it happen. 


Fans will treasure these memories for a long time

My favorite performances were HELLO and Asahi’s x Haruto’s unit stage for their song THANK YOU. But overall, the concert was a 10/10. I really enjoyed all the performances and was totally charmed by the members. TREASURE is an energetic young group that people definitely should keep an eye on. This is just a start for them and they will get bigger in the future, no doubt. I, for one, will be looking forward to their new music.
